Running Mechanics
& Run Technique
A free, physiotherapist-led community program focused on how you run
Our Running Mechanics sessions are free, community-based classes led by experienced physiotherapists who specialize in movement-based care.
These movement education sessions are designed to help you understand and refine your running mechanics so you can run more efficiently, more comfortably, and with a lower risk of injury.
Because the program is led by licensed physiotherapists, it’s informed by:
Clinical experience treating running-related injuries
Movement assessment and rehabilitation principles
Strength and coordination training
A deep understanding of how bodies adapt to load
Not a Run Club. A technique-based running program.
Most run clubs focus on distance, pace, or performance. While those elements matter in some contexts, they often overlook the foundation of running — how your body moves under load. Our program is different.
Our Running Mechanics sessions are designed to:
Explore running mechanics, from your feet to your head
Build awareness of movement patterns
Improve efficiency through coordination and strength
Support long-term, sustainable running
There are no performance targets, no pressure to keep up, and no expectation to “push through” discomfort.
Who can join?
You don’t need to be fit, fast, or training for an event to participate. These sessions are open to:
Runners experiencing recurring aches, pains, or niggles
People returning to running after injury or time away
Walk/run participants building confidence
Recreational runners curious about improving efficiency
Anyone interested in running technique
Running Mechanics Sessions
When: Saturdays @ 8:00 AM
Location: Meet outside Kinesphere Therapy
Cost: Free community program
Level: Open to all abilities
Register: No need to register
Walk | Run | Learn
Sessions use a walk/run format to create space for learning and adaptation.
This structure allows participants to:
Practice technique changes without excessive fatigue
Develop strength and coordination alongside running
Notice how movement changes affect comfort and efficiency
Each session may include:
Short run and walk intervals
Strength-based movement drills
Technique cues grounded in biomechanics
Opportunities to explore movement with curiosity
What we focus on: Technique & running mechanics
Running mechanics refers to how your body organizes movement while running, including:
Posture and alignment
Cadence and rhythm
Arm, trunk, and leg coordination
Foot contact and force absorption
Load transfer through the hips, knees, and ankles
Rather than chasing a single “ideal” running form, we help you discover a more efficient and supportive way for your body to run.
Why mechanics matter for injury reduction
Many running-related injuries stem from repeatedly loading tissues in inefficient or unsupported ways, rather than from running itself.
By improving mechanics, runners can:
Reduce unnecessary strain on joints and tissues
Improve load distribution
Build tolerance to running demands
Run more comfortably over time
Our focus is on capacity and adaptability, not restriction.
